Writing Out Loud
Kathryn Mayer - known as Kathy and Kate -- is a potty-mouth writer, humorist, and activist writing out loud with humor and angst about social issues, parenting, midlife, and gun violence prevention at kathrynmayer.com. She is occasionally funny on Instagram and Twitter at kathykatemayer and plays well with others on Facebook. She’s a reluctant inductee into AARP, mom of four mostly grown-and-flown kids, and an aspiring writer with rejections to prove it. Her blog is a National Society of Newspaper Columnist award winner, and she’s received the Connecticut Press Club award for Best Personal Blog in CT, and has received BlogHer Voice of the Year Honors. Her essays appear online, in print, and most often on fridges.
Kate says, “Double-checking to see if the door is locked is something I never had to do -- and now I can't stop doing it. That and I think I need to get another dog because Lola isn't scary, or loving, enough.
This essay was written from a prompt a year or so ago: writers were told to write for 15 minutes about a door. Any door. This is what I came up with.
