What’s So Funny?

This Sunday, 5/1 is May Day, an ancient festival marking the first day of summer. Come celebrate with Read650 at City Winery New York as we present What's So Funny?—a series of short, illustrated personal stories from cartoonists and illustrators whose work you enjoy in The New Yorker!

This special event features a cast of 14 cartoonists whose work has appeared in the pages and covers of the magazine, including Liza Donnelly, a New Yorker regular who will be "live drawing" throughout the show on the big screen, David Sipress (just out with his memoir, What’s So Funny?), and Rick Meyerowitz (of National Lampoon fame).

Our popular live shows and podcasts are a pleasure for writers and audiences alike—events that take you inside a writer’s experience with stories that are sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking, and always engaging. And of course, it’s a unique mid-Sunday opportunity to indulge your senses with wine-inspired hospitality!

Liza Donnelly has been a cartoonist and writer for The New Yorker for forty years. A few years ago, while watching the State Of The Union, Liza discovered that she could quickly draw on her iPad and post her cartoons instantaneously on social media. The response was immediate and positive, and since then she’s live-drawn the Oscars, the Emmys, the Golden Globes, the Grammys, and more. This Sunday she’ll be live drawing at “What’s So Funny?” And at a reception following the show, Liza will also be signing copies of her new book, Very Funny Ladies. Reserve your seats now and come join the fun!

Doors open at 12:30 if you’d like to join us for a delicious lunch!
