FOMO Tuesday
"The fear of missing out (FOMO) is an emotional response to the belief that important opportunities are being missed. FOMO often leads to feelings of unease, dissatisfaction, depression and stress." —Wikipedia
For me, Giving Tuesday has become FOMO Tuesday because of my Fear of Missing Out on the most epic giving day of the year.
I was tempted to sit this one out rather than add to the avalanche of requests in your e-mailbox today. But then I thought: people everywhere are generously donating to incredible and worthy organizations, changing lives, and making the world a better place. And I don't want you —and Writers Read— to be the only ones left out of this do-good fiesta!
Writers Read creates and promotes performance opportunities for writers through curated live and digital events. In a publishing environment with a shrinking number of opportunities to showcase new voices, it's a high-quality platform for aspiring and established writers alike—and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization to boot!
You receive our newsletter so you likely share our interest in creating these opportunities for writers. And if you're one of the hundreds of writers we've promoted and featured on our stage, you understand the value of what we do first-hand.
Each year we produce regular live shows at Manhattan's City Winery featuring submissions we receive from talented writers; many of their stories have a second life in our thoroughly entertaining live-performance podcast—deeply moving, sometimes hilarious, and always engaging.
Writers Read is a 100% volunteer organization and as we grow, there are some tasks that simply cannot wait for someone to find the time to pitch in.
Your gift of $10, $50, $100 or more could fund an intern to assist with the myriad tasks of getting our live shows up at City Winery and our podcast online.
Your donation can help us hire a grant writer to apply to foundations that exist to fund what we do–like the Nancy Friday Foundation, which recently gifted Writers Read $2,000.
Your generosity makes a world of difference, and your contributions make what we do possible. Because we simply can’t do it without YOU!
