Remembering Manuela
Writer and Pulitzer-prize winner Manuela Hoelterhoff was a friend to Writers Read whom we twice featured on our stage. She was formidable and witty, and was also my Hudson Valley neighbor.
The obituary published in the Wall Street Journal is followed by samples of Manuela’s criticism, pieces that illustrate the “sharp-tongued” brilliance she was known for.
The video is from the very first season of Writers Read, a piece Manuela read at Nancy Manocherian’s The Cel on West 23rd Street in a show we called simply “Dog Stories.”
